PORT ROAD SEAVIEW - MAJOR ROADWORKS

There are some upcoming road closures coming for the installation of a fuel pipeline in the Seaview Industrial Area. The planned closure of Port Road will affect users of the Seaview Marina, deliveries to and from local businesses, and commuters from the eastern bays. The fuel pipeline will run from the corner of Seaview and Port Roads, down Port Rd (via Marchbanks and Toop Streets) to the Hutt City terminal at 55 Port Rd.

Timings

Contractors will commence site establishment from Monday 7th April at 119 Port Road, which primarily focusses on establishing their offices and environmental controls but will also include pot holing along the pipeline route to find services and undertake environmental sampling. Traffic management is required for this work meaning some car parks being temporarily blocked off until the potholing has been completed and the pavement reinstated.

From Wednesday 23rd April (after Easter) the main works in road reserve will start which includes the closure of the marina end of Port Road until the end of July ’25 (approx. 3-months).

Port Road Closure

The closure of the marina end of Port Road will include the first 200m of Port Road up to the driveway access for the nearest business, which will enable this section of pipe to be installed at the same time as the section under the road is installed.

The road closure will also result in the following disruption:

• The north bound bus stop at the end of Port Road will be closed. Passengers will need to catch the bus from the bus stop at Point Howard (Ngāmatau).

• Access to the camper van wastewater dump station on Port Road will be closed. Campervans will need to use the Eastern Hutt Rd, Silverstream or Hutt Rd, Ngauranga Gorge dump stations.

Access to Seaview Marina & Businesses

During the Port Road closure, access to the Seaview Marina and all businesses within the Seaview Industrial area will need to be via the northern end of Port Road or Barnes Street as per the image below. Detour signage will be in place. If southbound drivers who want to access Port Road miss the turn off at Barnes Street, then they won’t be able to turn around until after Point Howard (Ngāmatau). Heavy vehicles may need to drive as far as Eastbourne before they can turn around. Longer vehicles that attempt to exit the Seaview industrial area by heading east along Port Road will find themselves at a dead end when they reach the road closure. Pedestrian and cycle access will be maintained during the construction works.

All other Seaview roads will continue to operate as per normal during this phase of the works. At the conclusion of the road closure a one-way traffic management system will be implemented. The details of this will be communicated closer to the time.
