SEVERE WEATHER EVENT - 15/16 FEBRUARY 2026 - LOWER NORTH ISLAND
Several regions from Wellington up to Manawatu/Tararua/Whanganui, including Wairarapa all had severe wind and rain warnings in place. Many regions are in pre-emptive states of emergency. Rivers are rising, wind is absolutely hammering the regions, many are without power, and countless trees have fallen blocking roads and byways.
All planes in and out of Wellington airport are cancelled, all Cook Strait ferries, and all train services (til at least 10am Monday)
Here are some of the photos of debris, incidents and scenes around the place. All credit to the original authors of this content.
